The Apprentice Sorcerer The Caldronian Guild eBook Andrew G. Wood Reviews

Great story very fast paced though but great and interesting characters only irritating part is the swapping of characters as you get used to one of them but over all great book
I enjoyed reading this one. I didn't give it more stars because to many things seem to be left out. I do hope that the next one will be better. Overall it was a good read.
The story is well told and keeps the interest. The grammar is touch awkward in places and just plain wrong in a few. But it is a well told tale with believable characters
Excellent job nonstop action keeps you turning page's.Great job of writing this will keep you want keep reading to see what happens next.Ordering the next book.
A good beginning story to what l hope will be a good series. I like the characters good and bad you get good incide in2 there personally. I'll buy the next when I see?
Easy to read and understand.
Characters had proposes with meaning behind them
The author keep the story moving fiction and real life expectancy together.
Waiting for the next book.
Please.
I enjoyed this book as it was interesting and straight forward. I think the series has promise and would look forward to the next book.
I don't have a problem with the grammar as for the price and the effort of the author I would encourage him to continue and improve on the good start he has made.
Let me be honest I want to like this book. I actually want to see this author do well. He has potential. But this book makes me want to weep for him and what he does to the genre with it. The *story* wasn't too bad. It was all predictable tropes, but had room to grow. And it did to a small degree.

The crux of the problem with this book is the author's command of written English. He couldn't pass a high school English class if this is the best he can offer. I know that sounds harsh, but seriously, it's that full of errors. I truly wonder if he only took ESL or ran his original through Google translate or something.
- The word order is jumbled so often it became part of his 'style'.
- The obviously wrong (and unrelated) word was used on, what seemed like, nearly every other page.
- There are around a dozen places I can recall off the top of my head where the chronology of events was blatantly broken, in the next sentence or paragraph!
- They're, their, there (and other similarly sounding words). These are not interchangeable.
- Verb tense, consistency is key with it.

I was also put off by the actual style of writing. It was all past tense like you would find in a history book. And it wasn't used as a plot device or style point either. It was just a history lecture. That along with a distinct lack of detail about anything at all left the people and places all one dimensional. Even to the point where it is sub-par for a generic YA book.

I strongly recommend a professional editor for this book. It might even make me want to read the next one just to see how the story progresses. But as it stands now, I refuse to recommend anyone waste their time with this or anything else this author publishes. It could have been a decent book but the author ruined it with either being lazy and publishing a rough draft, or truly needs to take English 101 to learn how to write a passable piece of work. If he updates this with a cleaned up version that has been professionally edited then I would change my recommendation to being a fair read.

2 stars instead of 1 because the author had a reasonably good story to tell. With professional editing I would see this as a 3.5 star work.
